This is the third book I've read by Wilbur Smith and I have enjoyed reading all three。 His books on the Courtney family are of course fiction but they are also filled with interesting bits of history relating to the periods in which they occur。 This book is a two for one story of Nazi war criminals and British colonialism in Kenya in the early 1950's。 Because of the overlapping parts of fact and fiction I am always compelled to look further into the events taking place during that time period。 I This is the third book I've read by Wilbur Smith and I have enjoyed reading all three。 His books on the Courtney family are of course fiction but they are also filled with interesting bits of history relating to the periods in which they occur。 This book is a two for one story of Nazi war criminals and British colonialism in Kenya in the early 1950's。 Because of the overlapping parts of fact and fiction I am always compelled to look further into the events taking place during that time period。 In the case of Legacy of War I learned a great deal by researching the war with the Mau Mau。 Legacy of War is a well written page turner filled with action and has interesting insights into the British Empire on the African continent。 Even though this book is part of a series it can still be read as a stand alone story。 。。。more

I won this book from Goodreads and it has introduced me to Wilber Smith。 This is the first book I have ever read by this author。 There was a lot going on in this novel but the author did a great job of keeping the reader familiar with each character。 I think this novel was an example of a great storyteller。 I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book。

RTCAnother amazing novel by Smith in the Courtney line! Brutal, thrilling, and filled with a new (to me) generation of Courtneys。I probably wouldn't recommend it but this does read perfectly well as a standalone。Full rtc RTCAnother amazing novel by Smith in the Courtney line! What an amazing book!Saffron Courtney and Gerhard Meerbach met under dire circumstances during World War II。Now they're enjoying an idyllic life on Lusima Estate in Kenya, Africa。The estate is owned by Courtney's father, Leon。General Kungu Kabaya is an evil Mau Mau warlord who wants to stir rebellion in his country against the British。 Fellow tribe members who don't swear to his "oath" end up paying a heavy price。During the social and political strife, the Courtney family struggles to do what's What an amazing book!Saffron Courtney and Gerhard Meerbach met under dire circumstances during World War II。Now they're enjoying an idyllic life on Lusima Estate in Kenya, Africa。The estate is owned by Courtney's father, Leon。General Kungu Kabaya is an evil Mau Mau warlord who wants to stir rebellion in his country against the British。 Fellow tribe members who don't swear to his "oath" end up paying a heavy price。During the social and political strife, the Courtney family struggles to do what's right。They will soon be in grave danger。Also, in the meantime, Saffron and Gerhard, are being pursued by Gerhard's brother。 Konrad von Gerhard is a former Nazi SS officer hell-bent on revenge。This is one elegantly-written and action-packed historical thriller。 Richly evocative and gripping from the get-go。I relished every line of it!This was an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

It was very interesting read! This is a historical fiction meets action, creepy and horror。 The writing style is clean and easy to read。 Also love how quick this book was to read couldn't put it down。 It very very interesting。 Overall it was a good book。 I would change somethings as well as even though the book was a quick and easy read I found myself getting bored in the middle and beginning at times。 It was very interesting read! Legacy of War takes place after World War II。 Even though this is in fact the 19th book in a series, it works perfectly well as a standalone, as I have not previously read anything else by this author yet。The story takes place all over the world, from London to Kenya to Spain。 It follows a couple - she a past British spy with kills under her belt, and he a German who was a prisoner of war in a Nazi camp。 They are both still fighting Nazis in that they are trying to locate his evil brother and h Legacy of War takes place after World War II。 Even though this is in fact the 19th book in a series, it works perfectly well as a standalone, as I have not previously read anything else by this author yet。The story takes place all over the world, from London to Kenya to Spain。 It follows a couple - she a past British spy with kills under her belt, and he a German who was a prisoner of war in a Nazi camp。 They are both still fighting Nazis in that they are trying to locate his evil brother and his wife。Also going on in Kenya is the battle between landowners and the workers - there is a lot of strife and resentment from the natives towards the white landowners that led to a lot of very graphic scenes。I thought the characters were fascinating and the author provides enough background to allow this book to stand alone。 I also enjoy the fight against the nazis still。 。。。more

I guess that one searches for freedom and things being right, if that is how to describe it which is why I have zero problems with 95yo men being sent back to Germany to atone for being Nazi prison camp guards。The story is well crafted and skillfully combines history and fiction - I will recommend it to patrons and friends alike and use the pickle story many times when doing so as that always makes people want to read Mr。 Smith's books。。。I don't tell them WHY, I tell them to find out whyAs always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I simply adore emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/snowflakes / literally-like-overusers etc。 " on Instagram and Twitter。。。 Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🥒🥒🥒🥒 。。。more

The saga continues with well-developed characters in a story that makes you want to go back if you missed earlier episodes, and anxiously await the next installment。 I received an advanced digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review。

Legacy of War continues the story of Saffron Courtney and Gerhard Meerbach。 I believe this is the third book on their storyline, so you need to go back to at least Courtney's War to their beginning。 However, you really should go all the way back to the beginning of the Courtney Series for the best reading。 This book is set in Kenya at the time of the Mau Mau uprising。 I enjoyed most of the plot, I love his descriptions of Africa the relationships between the characters, and the action。 However, Legacy of War continues the story of Saffron Courtney and Gerhard Meerbach。 I believe this is the third book on their storyline, so you need to go back to at least Courtney's War to their beginning。 However, you really should go all the way back to the beginning of the Courtney Series for the best reading。 This book is set in Kenya at the time of the Mau Mau uprising。 I enjoyed most of the plot, I love his descriptions of Africa the relationships between the characters, and the action。 However, I didn't enjoy the depiction of Jomo Kenyatta in this book。 There is controversy over whether Kenyatta was one of the leaders in the Mau Mau uprising, even though he was convicted of it, and it is very questionable if he would have come to power, if he hadn't been。 It is however, indisputable that Kenyatta's presidency was rife with corruption and sometimes a cruel one to some races。 Thank you #NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to give my voluntary and honest opinion on #LegacyofWar。 。。。more

This book has a great idea and fabulous characters but it didn't grab me the way I thought it would。 I've studied World War 2 for most of my life as a passion project so I was really looking forward to adding this to the collection of books I already have。 I was a bit disappointed overall though by the story。 It just fell flat to me and left me wanting。The writing is well done, carefully thought out and looks good。 The cover is brilliantly colored which should grab the readers' attention。 I lov This book has a great idea and fabulous characters but it didn't grab me the way I thought it would。 I've studied World War 2 for most of my life as a passion project so I was really looking forward to adding this to the collection of books I already have。 I was a bit disappointed overall though by the story。 It just fell flat to me and left me wanting。The writing is well done, carefully thought out and looks good。 The cover is brilliantly colored which should grab the readers' attention。 I loved the dynamic between Saffron and Gerhard and how quippy they are together。Occasionally the sexual relationships in this book just went too far for me, the "game" played by the officer and his wife made me uncomfortable and I needed to skip it。 I'm not one for abusive relationships in any way and that was triggering to me so just to warn others that might have the same triggers。 。。。more

Another wonderful book from Wilbur Smith。 The book has strong well-defined character。 The character know who they are and do not change during the book。 You know who the bad guys are and who the good guys are。 The story builds to an action packed ending。 One of things I love about his books is the way Smith builds his settings in Africa。 He does a wonderful job of setting the location。 You can really "see" the landscape of Africa。 The story builds as you read and has a number of nice twist that Another wonderful book from Wilbur Smith。 The book has strong well-defined character。 The character know who they are and do not change during the book。 You know who the bad guys are and who the good guys are。 The story builds to an action packed ending。 One of things I love about his books is the way Smith builds his settings in Africa。 He does a wonderful job of setting the location。 You can really "see" the landscape of Africa。 The story builds as you read and has a number of nice twist that fit。 His writing is always great, building a smooth story line that is easy and enjoyable to follow。 。。。more
